Director’s Note: TriptheDark has always been founded on collaboration and bringing dance to places where it doesn’t normally go. This project is no different. The rush from witnessing so many individuals offer such amazing creativity, build immediate community, and create something so much greater than the sum of its parts is what keeps me coming back over and over. I am in awe of each of these performers and in a debt of gratitude to them for coming along with me on this wild, years-long ride. The story of The Lighthouse is based in a fictional tale written about the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and published in a local newspaper in an effort to save it from demolition. In our version, we hope to explore what happens when you face the unknown with curiosity and bravery. What do you gain when you are not afraid of difference? What do you lose when you are? I’d also like to honor all of those who have supported us in this journey – there are so many ways that unexpected things crop up during the making of a film and everyone (including my lovely wife, Lizzie) has embraced the chaos with resilience and positivity.
